Greetings from Panama City Beach, Florida!
I’m Cindy aka “Purple/Purple Pan Cindy”. I’m an RN with years of Critical Care, PACU, and, in my younger days, some ER. In the mid 70’s I met some people that rode choppers and became fascinated with the whole scene. By 1982 I decided I wanted to ride my own so one night shift when I was working I grabbed the morning paper and there was an ad for a 63 Panhead for $1200—needed work. $1200 later, she was mine, and it was on “Layla” that I learned how to ride 40 years ago.
In 2005, while living in South Carolina, I bought a 2003 Anniversary Night Train for a long-distance bike. In the summer of 2006, I joined a small group of retired professionals and took a 3-month leave of absence from my job so I could tour the 48 states. During the ride, there were many areas of our beautiful country that were without cell service, much less GPS devices. I would catch myself thinking, “What if one of us went down or had a medical event…what do I have on me to render aid until we figure out how to get help??”
Upon returning back to reality after the ride, a friend on Facebook tagged the ASM website telling me to check it out. I signed up for a training as soon as I could find one which was in Charlotte, NC in January 2007. I did the Basic and Advanced and was hooked!! In February 2007 I was able to attend an Instructor training in Atlanta and from there I hit the ground running introducing ASM to South Carolina.
My rewards for being an Instructor all these years come in the form of people telling me how the training impacted their lives, whether saving a life or giving them the tools to render competent roadside care. The big reward came in February 2022 when I was inducted into the South Carolina Motorcycle Hall of Fame in Myrtle Beach due to the awesome support of SC ABATE.
I currently own a 2016 Deluxe Classic FLSTN factory Purple paint, of course! I named her the Purple “Pearl.” One ride on my bucket list would be to go back to Butte, Montana, and ride south to Pocatello, Idaho. It was such a surreal ride for a flatlander like me…incredible, stunning beauty on Interstate 15.
My advice to all riders would be: RIDE FREE—RIDE SAFE—RIDE PREPARED!!
