Road Guardians 18th annual River Run for ASM

Road Guardians hosts an annual event to raise funds to benefit Accident Scene Management. Accident Scene Management is the largest Motorcycle Trauma training organization in the world! The non-profit organization has trained over 30,000 people since it started in 1996. It maintains high standard of training and is the only accredited bystander program in the USA. The organization has programs for both motorcyclists and professional rescuers.

If you have never attended the River Run for ASM event, you’re missing out on something special. Always the third weekend of July, the River Road Fundraiser is exceptional in quality and fun. Last year, this year and at least next year, the event is at Chestnut Mountain Resort in Galena, Illinois. Friday night, participants gathered around a bonfire, with hot dogs, chips and toasted marshmallows to start the fun. Saturday, a 174 mile poker run took us through some very scenic areas along the Mississippi River on both the Illinois and Iowa sides. My favorite stop was Bombfire Pizza on the little Island town of Sabula, Iowa. Even though we had previously arranged everything, we still had to wake the owner up to start the pizzas, because he partied until 6 am that morning. Still, he cheerfully jumped into action and called for some help. What a fun place and all you could eat pizza for $10. Saturday evening, back at the resort, the evening was filled with excitement, people sharing their experiences from the day’s ride. Are you tired of limp roast beef and greasy chicken parts for an evening banquet meal? Well, Chestnut Mountain pulled out all the stops with a great buffet, including fresh salad (no iceburg lettuce…this was the best salad I’ve eaten at a banquet), and you could go back for seconds, which usually doesn’t happen. There was a fishbowl auction with 20 packages to win totaling thousands of dollars of merchandise. Next year, we’ll be back at Chestnut Mountain with all of the amenities they offer including Alpine Slides and a zip line. The ride will explore the area north of Galena and Dubuque, with stunning overlook of the Mississippi River. Don’t miss this important fundraiser next year, third weekend of July, 14th through July 16th, 2017. The money raised helps provide support for Accident Scene Mgt, which in turn benefits every motorcyclist.
