This past June 2024 we were on a three day HOG Chapter ride in West Virginia. On day two we were split into three groups of about 10 bikes in each group. I was in group two, about 7th in the bike back. We came up on our sweep from group one that had just hit a deer right before we rolled up. Thanks to our training, I immediately grabbed my vest and went to check the situation. They were already assessing her so I asked the Road Captain what he wanted me to do. He told me go to the rear and direct traffic and tell group three what happened, tell them to go on around us, and meet up with group one. We had no phone service so we sent a guy in a pickup truck to drive and call for EMS. It all went about as well as you could have hoped. I really think without the training, I would have very easily been more panicked and have no clue what to do. Since then I have taken the Advanced class as well. Being prepared in my mind made the difference for me.
