Northern Nevada HOG Makes a Commitment to Safety
Robert Boom, ASM Lead Instructor and Head Road Captain.
In March 2018, the Northern Nevada Chapter of the Harley Owners Group (NNHOG Chapter 2716) and Chester’s Reno Harley Davidson showed its commitment to helping prevent life threatening injuries by sponsoring and providing tuition assistance for two Basic Accident Scene Management (ASM) courses. Chester’s Reno Harley Davidson in Reno, NV, supports the Northern Nevada HOG Chapter by providing the training space where the courses were taught. Twenty of the thirty-one chapter’s Road Captains attended and completed the Basic Accident Scene Management course. The Northern Nevada HOG Chapter has always been committed to safety training with the goal of training the remainder of the Road Captains in Basic ASM. The Northern Nevada HOG Chapter also instructs safe riding techniques during pre-ride briefings prior to chapter rides and provides Group Riding Seminars, New Member Ride Seminars, CPR and First-Aid training.
The instructors for the ASM courses were Robert Boom and William Scott. Both instructors are Head Road Captains for Northern Nevada HOG chapter which makes 22 of the 31 Road Captains trained in ASM. The Road Captains were taught how to recognize and treat life threatening injuries along with hands-on experience until medical help arrives on scene. They were shown that with the proper education and training, emergency care can begin immediately at the scene of an accident, addressing the first few critical minutes after a crash. The instructors are hopeful that they can provide ASM training to other members of the chapter in addition to adding the Advanced ASM for their Road Captains.
