Columbus, IN – Helene is a mechanical engineer with a background in physics. She has been an engine engineer for most of her career. She says, “I love it! You can tell by the number of bikes I own!”
Most of the riding she does is sport or sport-touring (on the road or on the track). She has shared her passion for 20 years, as an MSF RiderCoach until 2019, and as a Total Control Instructor since 2016. Helene writes a column in the Motorcycle Sport Touring Association’s STAReview, which is published about four times a year.
Helene said, “Being both a control freak and an obligate manager of risk (by profession), it was just a matter of time before I would become a first responder, which I did 20 years ago. I kept working on it as a sideline and became an EMT in 2016.”
Helene is passionate about this topic. She explained that as a rural volunteer firefighter, she is exposed to various medical and traumatic incidents, but the script often draws a blank when the vehicle involved is a motorcycle. Furthermore, she explained that having forensic engineering experience and having tumbled a couple of times herself on the track made her want to share the lessons she learned with fellow riders *without* having to learn them the hard way!
